HOUSTON A 44-year-old man was charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a mother and her daughter on Christmas Eve in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Curtis James Adams is charged with capital murder in the 338th state District Court and remains in police custody. Adams also faces a charge of indecency with a child stemming from a January case in the 208th state District Court.

Houston police said in a press release Friday that Adams is accused of shooting is Latasha Jones, 35, and her daughter, Jakayla Newhouse 13, at 11:30 a.m. on Monday in their home at in the 7000 block of Jetty Lane.

There was no sign of forced entry into the victims townhome, investigators said. Adams allegedly took a pistol and shot the two victims. He then fled the scene with his 7-year-old son, who witnessed the shootings.

The suspect then went to a relative s home, who tried to reach Jones by phone, police said. Adams relatives went to the victims home where they found the bodies, police said.

While at his relative s home, Adams allegedly threaten a family member with the pistol and Missouri City police were called to the scene.

Adams was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
