NORTH HOUSTON -- A child playing with matches may be to blame for starting a fire at an apartment complex Thursday afternoon.
The fire broke out at an apartment complex on Plaza Verde Drive near 45 North. The fire started on the first floor and spread to other units. Officials said several other apartments were damaged by smoke and water.
Investigators are not sure what started the blaze, but they were told a child may have been playing with matches.
One man took a fire extinguisher and tried to put the fire out and warn residents.
No one was hurt, but several families will now need to find a new place to live.
