BAYTOWN, Texas -- A small airplane crashed after hitting a high-tension power line at a park in Baytown, according to authorities.

The incident happened at Walter Jenkins Memorial Park just after 9 p.m. Monday.

Authorities said two Life Flight helicopters took two adults and a child to the hospital.

The Texas Department of Public Safety later identified the pilot as 48-year-old Gary Flynt of Baytown. His 8-year-old son and 44-year-old wife, Linda, were also in the plane.

All were in stable condition as of Tuesday morning, DPS said.

Overnight, state troopers kept an eye on the wreckage as investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were expected after sunrise.

It s believed the small Cessna hit a power line after taking off from a nearby airport. It s not known where the plane was heading.

The crash knocked out power to nearby homes, the Baytown Police Department, and a Walmart.

Area residents said the crash sounded like fireworks but violent.

There were no injuries on the ground.
