SAN ANTONIO -- An off-duty officer working security for a northeast-side restaurant shot and killed a man who reportedly brandished a weapon Friday morning.

According to a preliminary police report, two drivers began arguing in the drive thru of Chacho's & Chalucci's following a minor accident around 1:30 a.m.

The off-duty officer, who was in full uniform, was called over to stop the argument. Investigators said a passenger, armed with a silver revolver, stepped out of one of the vehicles while the officer was assisting one of the drivers.

According to the police report, the officer felt threatened and fired shots at the man. He was hit in the torso and collapsed and died at the scene. The shooting victim was believed to be 23-years-old, police said.

The officer has been placed on administrative duty, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
