MISSOURI CITY, Texas A little dog is fighting for its life tonight after someone set it on fire.

Veterinarians at the Sienna Plantation Animal Hospital in Missouri City are trying to save the little guy.

It s very disheartening to see something like this happen, said Dr. Brian Smith. It s horrible.

Smith says the dog has about a 50-percent chance of surviving.

He was first taken to the Humane Society of Brazoria County because they often handle severely abused animals.

We don t understand why people do the things they do to these animals, said Shirley Tinnin with the Humane Society. It s just some people have sick minds.

It s not clear who burned the dog, believed to be about 2 years old.

You can smell oil residue on his body and it seemed like it was burnt, like it was lit on fire, said Tinnin.

The Brazoria County Humane Society is asking for donations to help cover the cost of his surgery and medical care.

If he pulls through, they will offer him for adoption.

He d make an excellent pet for someone, said Tinnin. He is so sweet.

The Humane Society is asking the public to help come up with a name for the dog. You can post suggestions on our Facebook page.

If you want to donate, you can visit the Brazoria County Humane Society s website.
