HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans have confirmed that defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will assume the role of interim head coach while Gary Kubiak continues to recover from a transient ischemic attack.

The announcement was made Wednesday morning.

Kubiak spent more than 36 hours in the hospital after suffering a mini stroke during Sunday night's game versus the Colts.

The coach is expected to make a full recovery, but it has not been determined when he will return to Reliant Stadium to resume his duties.
