HOUSTON -- Voters will decide whether to save the Astrodome at the polls next week, but KHOU 11 News has learned that whether it stays or goes, Houston s most famous building will still cost us.

That s because $5 million of the funds approved to build the Reliant Center was used for the dome. There are also more than $30 million refinanced and approved over the decades, technically still part of bonds being held, but the county would call paid.

One thing Houstonians have always been good at it is bond proposals. From the original dome proposal at its $27 million price tag, if you take active bonds passed around this city they total in the billions.

Now the Astrodome s seats, turf and even the turnstiles are on the auction block.
