HOUSTON Houston police have released surveillance video of a man they believe is responsible for a string of robberies on the northwest and southwest sides of town.

Police said in the most recent case on Aug. 13, he pointed a gun at a mom in front her kids while demanding cash. It happened as the mother and her children got into the family s vehicle at a shopping center on Long Point Road in northwest Houston.

Investigators with the Houston Police Department believe the same man also robbed jewelry stores in both Houston and Harris County.

At a Zales outlet store on Hempstead Road and at a jewelry store in West Oaks Mall, police said the man demanded money from the cash registers at gunpoint. He also stole several gold and diamond rings before fleeing.

Police said in several of the crimes, the suspect was wearing a camouflage fishing hat or a black baseball cap and a motorcycle glove with the finger tips cut off.

The incidents occurred on the following dates and locations:

-- Aug. 2 - 1:10 p.m. - The Cash Store 12520 Westheimer
-- Aug. 2 - 1:55 p.m. - EZ Loan Store 1330 Gessner
-- Aug. 2 - 2:40 p.m. - Texas Car Title and Payday Loan 9305 Long Point
-- Aug. 6 - 10:30 a.m. - Kay Jewelers 1000 West Oaks Mall
-- Aug. 13 - 11:40 a.m. - (shopping center) 7840 Long Point

The suspect was described only as a white male, 45 to 50 years of age. He is about 6 feet 2 inches tall, 160 to 170 pounds, with a thin build. He has a gray goatee and dark hair that is balding on top. He was wearing reading glasses, brown work boots, carrying a side back pack, a black glove on his left hand and is armed with a gun. He has been seen in a light-colored pickup truck.
