HOUSTON Police are concerned about possible violence at dueling protests slated for Sunday afternoon in the River Oaks area.
Some business owners said they plan to close early, while others have said that they will not even bother opening their store. One shop even removed its inventory over concerns of looting.
Houston police will be step up their presence in River Oaks, and the department is urging those who do not live there, to avoid the area if possible.
Some residents said they are sympathetic and hope that Sunday s demonstrations do not turn violent.
That s my fear is that it s going to make a lot of people angry, that it s going to cause a lot of congestion, a lot of people won t be able to do whatever they re going to do, and it s not going to have the effect that the protestors want it to have, Taryn Walker said.
The protest rally led by Quanell X will gather at 4:15 p.m. at West Gray and Gillette, while a pro-Zimmerman rally starts outside Lamar High School at 3 p.m.
