HOUSTON -- The CrossFit workout fad may have a cult following, but for some, it s much more serious than trying to lose a few pounds.

Shahin Naghavi and Beau Shulgen run CrossFit EaDo, which is located near downtown Houston off the Gulf Freeway. It s the largest CrossFit specific gym or box in Texas.

This week marks the start of the 2013 CrossFit Games Open. It s a competition which helps pick out the best male and female athletes in the world. For five weeks, more than 100,000 athletes from around the world complete the same workout handed down from the national headquarters

The top scores during that five-week period advance.

EaDo coach Jenn Jones finished in 28th place last season. She, like many others who participate in this sport, says CrossFit is the best thing that s ever happened to them.

It s kind of given me a really happy place for my life, said Jones.

We kind find the inner athlete inside anybody, said EaDo coach Beau Schulgen. That s the great thing about CrossFit, it s for everybody.
