HOUSTON Friends and family gathered Sunday evening to pay tribute to Houston singer and songwriter Norma Zenteno, who died at the age of 60 Friday from complications with breast cancer.

At SRO s Sports Bar and Cafe fellow musicians played the music she loved the most: jazz, Latin, rock and salsa.

Zenteno began singing and writing songs when she was a young girl after her father gave her an electric guitar. Her father, Roberto Zenteno, led big bands in Houston for more than 50 years before his death in 2004.

The popular Norma Zenteno Band, which includes her brothers Javier, Bobby and Ernie, has been a regular on the Houston music scene for decades. Their mix of jazz, Latin and rock draws eclectic crowds. They have a regular Thursday night gig at Sambuca s in downtown Houston.
