GARRETT, Texas A two-year-old dog named Bear escaped from its home in Ellis County. When it wandered back, there were signs the Shih Tzuhad been tortured.
One of the dog's eyes was ripped out, while the other eye was so badly damaged it had to be removed at the nearby Ennis Vet Clinic.
We started looking for puncture wounds; there were no puncture wounds, which is what is consistent with an animal attack, said Dr. Courtney Blair. We're starting to get a bit suspicious that it may have been a malicious act.
Linda Zmolik is the dog's owner.
I know it wasn't an animal, she said, fighting back tears.
The elderly woman faceshealth problems of her own, and sayssays she can't care for a blind dog. The clinic is looking to adopt out the animal.
