DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas -- The Hays County Sheriff's office is investigating vandalism at St. Sophia Orthodox Church in Dripping Springs.
Sunday morning, church members found a trail of red paint around the side of the building that was splattered to look like blood. On the side of the church someone had painted the words, God will not save and hail Satan.
There was also a painted pentagram on the door and a devilish face.
We haven't had anything like that happen to us. Dripping Springs is kind of a quiet place. Things like that don't happen very often, said church member Leslie Oglesby.
Some church members took the vandalism in stride, viewing it as spiritual warfare.
I was thrilled. Because it's the only church I know of that has Satan upset enough to think he has to fight back, said church member David Schneider.
Hays County deputies gathered evidence Sunday including a painted animal skull. They are hoping to find fingerprints and make an arrest.
They came by and did a report and went through the whole area looking for clues. I hope they can find out something, Oglesby said.
Members said they don't know why someone would target their church, but they hope Hays County can make an arrest so another congregation isn't vandalized.
