HOUSTON There were some scary moments Monday when a gun went off at Spring Woods High School in Spring Branch ISD.

A student was showing the 380-calibur handgun to classmates when it fired, according to the Spring Branch ISD Police Chief Chuck Brawner.

The bullet went through adoor. around 11 a.m.

No one was hurt, but Chief Brawner said a teacher had been standing near the door minutes before the shooting.

The teacher and 25 students were in the classroom at the time.

The freshman was arrested by SBISD police and taken into custody.

He faces a charge of possession of a handgun on school grounds.

At this time, it s believed that the weapon discharged accidentally rather than with any intent to do harm, the district said in a letter sent to parents.

Brawner said police responded quickly, but parents need to do their part to keep students safe.

Parents need to help us to make sure that their kids... should not be taking guns to school -- any type of weapons that could cause bodily injury. So we need the parents help too, Brawner said.

We have a crew at the scene and will have live updates on KHOU 11 News at5, and 6 p.m.
