GALVESTON Where else but a winter wonder island like Galveston could Santa go surfing and children summon snow flurries just by sending text messages?

Those visions sprang from the city s ongoing, collaborative effort to market Galveston as a top holiday destination using a Passport to Holiday Magic as the vehicle, said Melody Smith, director of marketing for the Galveston Island Convention and Visitor s Bureau.

The Tourism Development Advisory Committee, a subcommittee under the Park Board of Trustees, tasked the bureau with encouraging people to visit more and stay longer by promoting Galveston as a top holiday attraction for hotel visits, entertainment attractions and retail shopping, bureau Public Relations Manager Leah Cast said.
