HOUSTON --For hundreds of thousands of people, Thanksgiving was a special night at the annual Uptown Houston tree lighting.

Now in its 27th year, the lighting is a tradition. Part of it includes a competition among balconies which are decked out for the holidays at the Post Oak Hilton.

This year, a 5th floor balcony with a dancing Santa Clause won first place.

Down on the ground, spectators dressed in a sea of red for the Houston Texans.

Pegi Williams of Katy wore her jersey and said her holiday wish list now includes a Katy state championship and the Texans going to the Super Bowl.

Yet the day s final surprise came as Santa started to say goodbye. The more than 80 trees finally lit, creating a pathway home along Post Oak Boulevard.

A spokeswoman for the event said they did not start on time because of a computer glitch, and that this marked the first year that computers were used.
