HOUSTON A woman suspected of being the ringleader of a large group of thieves stole thousands of dollars worth of baby formula from Houston area Target stores, according to Houston police.

Laagunettar Dawn Wilhite, 33, was charged with organized retail theft.

Police said Wilhite stole 88 cans of baby formula, valued at more than $2,000, from Target stores over a two-month period.

Police said Wilhite first hit up a Target store in the 6900 block of FM 1960 in Atascocita on September 25.

Wilhite was captured on surveillance cameras loading 27 cans of baby formula into a plastic tote before walking out without paying. The formula was valued at $683.00.

She went into the same Target again on October 8 and, this time, left the store with 28 cans of formula valued at $690.00.

Wilhite continued on from there. A week later on October 17, she went into a Target in the 6900 block of the North Freeway and loaded her plastic bag with baby formula again, according to court documents.

This time, she allegedly took 33 cans valued at $790.00

Police said more suspects are expected to be charged in the future.

Wilhite s bail was set at $5,000.
