HOUSTON A grand jury returned an indictment of capital murder Thursday on a man who killed his wife s newborn daughter because he may have been resentful that the baby was not his, according to the Liberty County Sheriff s Office.
Just nine days after being released from prison for an Arson conviction, Brian Christopher Keith returned home to his wife, Shanna Keith, and her 4-week-old baby girl, Nevaeh.
On July 2, 2013, Keith woke up around 4 a.m. and was heading to work. Nevaeh was in the bed crying and his wife was still asleep.
According to investigators, Keith admitted to patting the child on the head and maybe striking the baby before he left out.
When CPS workers came to the home to take Shanna Keith to a treatment facility around 11 a.m., they found the baby non-responsive and immediately called 911. Sadly, Nevaeh could not be saved and was pronounced dead. Her name is Heaven spelled backward.
The autopsy results indicated that Nevaeh died by Compression Death which is, in effect, death due to a blunt trauma to the body. It is alleged that Keith fostered a great deal of resentment toward the baby.
Within a few days of little Nevaeh s death, Keith was arrested for a road rage incident and placed in the county jail on an assault charge. He was later released on probation, but was re-arrested on a probation violation. He was served with the grand jury murder indictment on March 21, while still behind bars.
No bond is being set at this time.
