HOUSTON Chick Harris has been with the Houston Texans since the very beginning. Now, 12 years later, he will be looking for a new job.

Harris, the only coach left from the original coaching staff, was let go on Saturday by new Texans head coach Bill O Brien.

He wants his people and it s ok, Harris told KHOU 11 Sports. We understand that. When you re in this business, this is what could happen.

Harris was originally hired by Dom Capers back in 2002.

I think the Texans organization has been great and I ve enjoyed all the years I ve been here, Harris said. All the people that I ve come in contact with have just been the best.

In his career, Harris mentored eight running backs who reached the 1,000-yard mark in a season a collective 15 times.

Arian Foster has three of those 1,000-yard seasons. He ranked second in the AFC with 1,424 yards rushing in 2012. Foster is the team s all-time leading rusher under Harris guidance with 4,521 yards.

Those seasons are what he ll remember the most from his time in Houston.

Just making the playoffs for the first time, and then making the playoffs for the second time thinking you have the chance to go to the championship round, Harris said. It s just a great sense of accomplishment to have a running back to play pretty dog gone good in those years so you know, I m happy with it.

What s next? Harris says he s not sure.

I still have that fire in my belly so I ll see what s out there, Harris said. I only wish we could have won it all.
