HOUSTON - Drivers heading inbound on Memorial Drive were brought to a near standstill after a tree fell in the roadway.

Crews were called in to remove the tree early Tuesday morning near the eastern edge of Memorial Park, but it wasn t cleared in time for the rush hour commute. Traffic was backed up nearly two miles to the 610 Loop.

The tree fell onto the roadway, blocking one lane, during a heavy downpour overnight.
