HOUSTON B. D. Sylvia knew he had to lose weight.
The Baytown man was afraid he was going to die.
The 49-year-old former plant worker tried several different diets.
But, shrugging the pounds he started gaining as a kid seemed impossible.
The husband and father of three said he was not about to give up.
My daughter deserves to have her dad walk her down the aisle, he said.
Syvia s problems led him to drinking water.
Lots of it.
A glass before he eats.
Another while he eats.
And then when I m done, I ll have a third glass of water and I m done, he said.
The pounds started coming off.
Can losing weight be that simple?
By drinking water it helps with your appetite. It helps to suppress it. So that in turn you're not adding in more calories, said My Fit Foods Nutrition Coach Amanda Goldsmith.
Sylvia lost a total of 90 pounds.
But he regained nearly half of them.
He was devastated.
When you wake up, and you look in the mirror and you don t like what you see, it s hard to love yourself, he said.
So, this time Sylvia started reading self help books.
He made a huge discovery.
Sylvia said he realized he was trying to fix symptoms instead of trying to fix the problems.
Sylvia lost so much weight his pants were falling off.
His portly 40-inch waist melted by six inches.
Sylvia still eats just about anything he wants, but he s got to work to keep the pounds off.
Sylvia has learned to cook, measure portions and exercise.
He walks for at least 30 minutes every day.
It has taken him years to reach his goal.
And now one step at a time, he wants to help others feel the same way.
