SUGAR LAND -- More active duty military members died from suicide than in combat in 2012.
This Sunday, 60 Minutes is focusing on the issue and featuring a Houston-area Purple Heart recipient.
Marine corporal Clay Hunt was wounded in battle and was later diagnosed with PTSD and depression.
Hunt was an advocate for at-risk veterans, but two years ago, he lost his own battle and committed suicide.
Hunt s parents say he never recovered from the experience of seeing his friends injured and killed in war.
He knew in his head there was nothing else that he could have done and he knew no one could have done anything more, but in his heart, it just tore him apart, said Susan Selke, Hunt s mother.
The 60 Minutes report called The Life and Death of Clay Hunt airs Sunday, March 3 at 6 p.m. on KHOU-TV.
