TEXAS CITY, Texas Aside the new road and improved boat ramps, the Texas City Dike is bare. Soon, though, a pavilion will open, and the entrance to the dike will feature a piece of Texas City maritime history.

Improvements at the dike aren t the only enhancements under way in the city.

The city is converting an out-of-business car dealership into a city service center. It recently bought an out-of-business stone company s facility as a site for parks department s work crews.

Mayor Matt Doyle has been waiting to rebuild the First Lady Pavilion at the dike. Hurricane Ike destroyed the original pavilion, dedicated to the wives of the city s mayors.

This pavilion will be across the road from the old one and is being built to a much stronger standard, Doyle said. Construction is expected to be done within the next month.
