HOUSTON Wednesday will be humid and the heat index will be high, KHOU 11 News Chief Meteorologist Gene Norman said.

The morning will begin with lows in the mid-to-upper 70s.

In the afternoon, pretty hot and steamy, just a 20-percent chance for a stray shower, otherwise with highs in the mid-90s, the heat index climbs between 102 and 108.

The seven-day forecast shows rain chances going up toward the end of the week.

Meanwhile, Ernesto made landfall Tuesday night along the southern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula near Mahahual, Mexico as a Category 1 hurricane.

It will not affect Texas, but there s another disturbance out in the Atlantic that has a chance to develop into something more.

The new system has a 30-percent chance of development (into Gordon), but it s too soon to tell what direction it will take.
