HOUSTON Nearly one out of every five gas stations in Houston have pumps that failed inspections, meaning they could be over-charging you.

Inspectors say an HEB gas station at 2805 Business Center, Pearland was one of the worst offenders with 31 violations.

According to the Houston Chronicle, more than 350 gas pumps in the Houston area overcharged customers for gas.

This could cost a customer anywhere from three cents to three dollars per fill-up.

Gas pumps are only inspected once every four years unless someone files a complaint. If inspectors do find a problem and it s not fixed, the gas station owner gets a ticket.

One way customers can fight back is to use the QR code sticker on every gas pump. It works like a barcode you can scan it with your smartphone. Then you can see a station s inspection history and instantly file a complaint.
