CROSBY, Texas The Harris County Sheriff s Office is searching for a convicted sex offender charged with the attempted sexual assault of a disabled Crosby woman.

Bill Leavins III was released from prison in April after serving six years for the attempted aggravated kidnapping of a 10-year-old girl.

A childhood friend, who asked that we only use her first name, agreed to give Leavins a place to stay. For three months, Melissa allowed the ex-con to live with her family in Crosby after he convinced them he d been wrongly convicted.

Leavins was the best man at her wedding.

And it s somebody we ve know for a long time. So we were gonna take his word for it, said Melissa.

Melissa has a 22-year-old mentally disabled sister with the mental capacity of a 12-year-old.

Back in October, Melissa said Leavins was alone with her sister at her home. Days after the encounter, the girl told her family that Leavins had fondled her and tried, forcefully, to make her perform a sex act on him.

She was terrified. I mean you could tell that she was scared. She wouldn t even be in the same room with him, said Melissa. I honestly think the reason he targeted my sister is because he didn t think she would say anything.

This week, the Harris County District Attorney s Office charged Leavins with the attempted aggravated sexual assault of a disabled person. The Harris County Sheriff s Office confirms that a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

He denies it, but I know he did it, added Melissa.

He better turn himself in before I find him, said the disabled woman s mom Donna. I would love to find him. The police wouldn t like me to find him. I probably wouldn t say anything to him, bodily injury comes to mind... I d like to hurt him. Oh yeah. That s definite.
