HOUSTON A Houston man with a lengthy criminal past blames Houston police for what he called a brutal attack that left him badly scarred and bruised.
They kept hitting me for no reason at all, said Anthony Childress. I thought I was going to die.
The alleged incident happened early Sunday in the 2900 block of Delano Street in southeast Houston.
Childress said he was riding his bike when police pulled up behind him. After emptying his pockets of a hunting knife, Childress said police proceeded to beat him.
They started punching my face and elbowing me, he said.
Childress said four officers were involved in the assault.
I passed out for a minute. I thought I was dead, he said.
Childress was treated at Ben Taub Hospital for his injuries. He said he received 56 stitches and six broken teeth.
His criminal past includes charges for assault, and assault with a deadly weapon. On Sunday, he was charged with drug possession. An activist has filed a complaint with the Houston Police Department.
This is outrageous, said Johnny Jeremiah. It s monstrous and needs to be stopped.
Police would not comment due to the ongoing investigation. Childress said he believes the officers involved should be punished.
What they did was wrong, said Childress.
