HOUSTON -- Police said early Friday a driver fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed into a Chase Bank on the northwest side of town.

The crash happened along W. Little York near Bingle just before 6 a.m.

Houston police at the scene said the driver, 33, crashed his SUV into the bank and caused extensive damage. He was sent to the hospital in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

The SUV also took out a fire hydrant, causing water to shoot into the air.

A bank manager said the location will not open for business today.
