BAYTOWN, Texas A 35-year-old man was hospitalized at Ben Taub Tuesday after an officer-involved shooting in Baytown.

According to police, Shane Phillips was shot by an officer after a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex on James Bowie Drive.

Police said around 11:30 a.m., Phillips showed up drunk at his ex-girlfriend s apartment.

Investigators said the woman had broken up with Phillips the day before.

An argument ensued, and police said Phillips attacked the woman and knocked her unconscious.

Officers were called to the scene, and they found Phillips walking nearby.

Investigators said when Phillips noticed one of the officers, he picked up a large chunk of concrete and threw it at the cop.

Then, police said a second officer arrived.

At that point, the officers said Phillips picked up another chunk of concrete, and the second officer opened fire, striking Philips at least once in the torso.

He was rushed to Ben Taub, where he underwent surgery. He was later moved to the ICU.

Police said the girlfriend suffered a black eye and had to get some stitches in her head from the attack, but she was expected to recover.

The officer who opened fire was placed on administrative leave, as is customary in officer-involved shootings.
