DALLAS - A man suspected to have robbed numerous banks across North Texas and dubbed the Handsome Guy bandit was arrested this afternoon after a chase involving Jackson County deputies in Mississippi, authorities said.
Deputies got a hit off Steven Milam's license plate. Milam, 44, is accused of robbing banks in Dallas, Irving, Richardson and Plano while wearing a mask known as the Handsome Guy.
In the most recent robbery, Milam allegedly shot at the first responding officer Saturday at the BBVA Compass Bank branch in Richardson. No one was hurt.
Sheriff deputies attempted to pull Milam over, but said he would not stop. Authorities shot out his tire and placed him in custody at about 10 a.m. in Jackson County.
Milam was reported to have taken a large amount of medication before his arrest and is being treated.
Milam, a casket salesman from Tyler, went to prison in 2005 for bank robberies. He now faces a more serious charge of attempted capital murder for shooting at police.
