HOUSTON A woman and a teenage boy were killed and a girl critically injured Monday after their van was T-boned by a vehicle that appeared to be racing, Harris County Sheriff s investigators said.

The wreck happened around 4:45 p.m. in the 7200 block of North Gessner at Brook River.

Witnesses said a black Chevy Tahoe was traveling southbound on North Gessner at a very high rate of speed, and it appeared that he was racing another vehicle, said Sgt. Susan Cotter, with the Harris County Traffic Enforcement Division.

The victim was pulling away from a stop sign when she was struck by the speeding Tahoe, Cotter said.

The 37-year-old woman and a boy who appeared to be 14 or 15 years old were pronounced dead at the scene, Cotter said. A girl inside the van, who appeared to be 5 or 6 years old, was transported by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Tahoe was transported by ground ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Two teenage passengers in the Tahoe were transported by ground ambulance to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle that the Tahoe driver was suspected of racing stopped after the collision happened, Cotter said.

Cotter said alcohol doesn t appear to be a factor in the wreck and that it is under investigation.

They could be charged with any numerous offenses, manslaughter, negligent homicide, [it] just depends on our reconstruction of the crash, and we'll review it, then review it again with the district attorney's office, she said.
