HOUSTON Bill O Brien impressed many with his first press conference as Houston Texans head coach. While he didn t give specifics as to what his on the field plans, he did give a little insight to the type of person he is.

And for O Brien, family comes first.

We ll put together a staff of coaches who have a passion for football, that are good family men, that understand it s important to go home, O Brien said. I think that s important and we ll have a really good staff of guys here to coach for the Houston Texans.

O Brien, who is married with two children, understands the importance of being at home. His 10-year old son Jack suffers from a rare neurological disorder known as Lissencephaly.

While it s tough to talk about, O Brien was very open about his son.

I think that in my own personal situation, what I know has been well-documented; I have great perspective on these things, O Brien said. I have a fantastic wife, Colleen, and I have two young sons, one that s special-needs, Jack, and an 8-year-old, Michael, who will be running around here very soon. And I think the most important thing in your life is your family. That s really, really an important part of my life.

According to O Brien, the meetings he had with Texans owner Bob McNair convinced him Houston was the right place to be.

I know when I met with Mr. McNair and Cal (McNair) and met Janice (McNair) and had dinner with them and talked to them, I know that family is really important to them, O Brien said. And so when I went back home and talked to my wife about it, you know that was a big deal.

Family is very, very important here at the Houston Texans and I think that s important. There s only so many hours in a day. Some of them have to be spent with your family. No question about it.
