HOUSTON -- Two people were taken into custody following an armed robbery at a scrap yard in northeast Houston early Wednesday, police said.

It was reported at U.S.A. Iron & Metal in the 6100 block of E. Mt Houston Road shortly after 8 a.m., according to officers with the Houston Police Department.

A gunman allegedly entered the front office and demanded cash from the workers. He then ran outside and down the street to a waiting gold sedan, witnesses told police.

A worker and a witness reportedly chased after the suspects, who deputies and police found about a block from the business.

There were unconfirmed reports that the gunman fired shots at the witnesses who chased him, but police said there was no evidence at the scene to back up those claims.

... it was said at one time, at a different location down the road, but we haven t found any shell casings or evidence of that, said Officer T. Reese.

No injuries were reported.

Managers at the business said they are no strangers to crime. In fact, this was the third robbery at the business in less than a month.

As the investigation continued Wednesday morning, the mother of one of the suspects showed up at the scene and spoke with her son, who was the accused getaway driver. In an interview with KHOU 11 News, the mom denied the allegations against her son.

My son ain t never did nothing like this, said Monica Shaw.

The mom said her son Alan, 23, didn t know who he was picking up at the business.

Both Alan and the other suspect, who was also in his early twenties, were taken to HPD headquarters for questioning.
