LA PORTE, Texas -- A transformer and a truck went up in flamesMonday afternoon at the Oxy Vinyls plant in La Porte.

Air 11 was live over the scene as black smoke filled the skies above the plant.

The fire started in the master switchyard in the 2800 block of Park Road 1836.

According to company spokesperson Dave Dorko, the fire started around 3:15 p.m. and involved an issue with their eletrical system.

The initial fire resulted in a nearby contractor vehicle catching fire as well.

No harm to the community at this time just a lot of black smoke that is visible to everyone, said La Porte Emergency Manager Jeff Suggs.

Onsite crews responded to the fire.

They are taking care of things the way they need to, Suggs said. It s very difficult to fight an electrical fire. They are probably just going to let it burn out.

There were no reports ofinjuries and the fire was under control.
