HOUSTON -- Crews worked overtime late Wednesday into early Thursday to stop a container leaking some kind of chemical into Berry Bayou in southeast Houston.

Officials said the container, which can hold 20,000 to 30,000 gallons, was leaking an oil-like liquid into the bayou on South Richey Street near Old Galveston Road.

The Coast Guard was called in Wednesday night to assist the Houston Fire Department with the spill.

Hazmat crews located the liquid oozing out of a drainage ditch in the water-filled bayou and later tracked down the source to the container.

The spill was eventually traced back to an 18-wheeler located inside a gated business.

There was no word on what caused the spill.
