HOUSTON -- Tax Day has arrived, and many have made a tradition of journeying to the United States Post Office to drop off their tax returns or extension letters.

For Houstonians who wait until the very last minute to even up with Uncle Sam or file for an extension, be aware no local post offices are open past normal hours this year.

Traditionally, several post offices across Texas stay open until midnight and offer curbside drop-off service to last minute filers. Not this year, however.
We understand that many of our customers are now using online services to process their online returns, said McKinny Boyd, United States Postal Service. With that and along with the US Postal Service losing $25 million, we find that it is better for our organization to provide this kind of central service to many of our customers.

Most offices close at 6 p.m., but the downtown office on Franklin Street closes at 7 p.m.
