LEAGUE CITY Shots fired Monday in a bank s parking lot came from an armed man awakened by the sound of a vehicle burglar interrupting his morning nap, authorities said.
Police officers responded shortly before 11 a.m. to Wells Fargo, 2915 S. Gulf Freeway, to what was initially thought to be a bank robbery, League City police Sgt. Tamara Spencer said.
Police instead learned a man who had been napping in the back a pickup while armed with a .40-caliber handgun had awaked to a burglary and shot the tinted windows out of a gold Buick as the burglar fled.
It was unknown whether the victim hit the burglar, a man police described as black, slim, 25 to 30 years old and 5-feet 8-inches tall.
The victim, a 27-year-old League City resident, was asleep in the pickup as his wife parked and went inside the bank.
