HOUSTON Harris County Sheriff s deputies are searching for a suspect who shot a man in northwest Harris County Thursday.

It happened at a company that refurbishes oil pipes in the 8900 block of Huffsmith-Kuykendahl Road around 10:30 a.m.

Authorities said a man walked into the business went directly to an office and shot an employee in the face.

The complainant was already here, said Sgt. Doug Thomas, a homicide detective with the Harris County Sheriff s Office. That s when the suspect showed up and the disturbance occurred.

The victim, described as a 56-year-old man, was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical, but stable condition. He is expected to survive from his injuries.

Authorities said the suspect was a 61-year-old man with strong ties to the property, and that both men had been embroiled in a long-standing dispute.

According to police, the suspect fled from the scene in a red, white and blue dully pickup truck. He was last seen wearing a white cowboy hat, light-colored western shirt and blue jeans.

Some neighbors felt alarmed by the fact that the gunman was still on the loose.

Cindy Rodano spoke from behind the fence on her front driveway.

I m glad it s gated, Rodano said. And it s scary because I m usually in here all by myself.

We hear gunshots every now and then throughout the properties here, said Steven Stewart. It s very sad. I don t know what to say.

Detectives are hoping to question the suspect to get his side of the story.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff s Office Homicide unit at 713-967-5810 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
