HOUSTON Hostess shelves are quickly becoming empty across southeast Texas as news of the company s closure spread quickly. If you re on a mission to find vanishing Hostess products, plan on being patient.
It seems there is a nationwide rush to load up on the beloved brand.
On Friday, some Houston residents said they had looked in a number of stores for Twinkies and had no luck.
This is my third place and I haven t been able to find them. It kind of makes me sad, said Karen Erwin. When have I ever been shopping for Twinkies and Ding Dongs for my kids except for when I know we can t get them anymore, she said.
Many are marking this date as the day the Hostess Twinkie died. The company announced it s going out of business and laying off 18,000 workers.
Where s the Twinkies man? Where s the Twinkies, asked Danny Clark.
Other people who came up empty handed acknowledged the bigger picture and those really affected.
That s the saddest part of all really. It s not missing the snack cake. It s people losing their jobs. I think that s just a crime, said Stephanie Patrick.
Patrick couldn t find any Twinkies, but she got a hold of a plastic Twinkie figurine.
KHOU stopped at 11 different stores on Friday. Only one had Twinkies, and the majority did not have any Hostess products left.
