HOUSTON There is growing concern about the West Nile virus as nationwide 40 people have died from the virus, and more than 1,000 have gotten sick.
Locally, mosquitoes in virtually every part of Harris County have tested positive for West Nile.
Well I have seen some dead birds as well, so it has been concerning, said Samantha Fewox, a Houston-area resident.
People are fighting back by wearing bug spray and long sleeves.
I m a little upset, concerned that there s West Nile mosquitoes in the area, but we will wear bug spray from now on, said Meagan Heble, another resident.
Still, that can t completely stop the mosquitoes.
The problem is so bad that one assisted-living center has asked its residents not to go outside.
Children and the elderly are most susceptible to the disease.
Many people can t wait for the worst part of mosquito season to be over.
