KHOST PROVINCE, Afghanistan A soldier from Galveston was part of a daring mountainside medevac rescue on Independence Day, helping to save two soldiers stranded on a cliff after an ambush.

Staff Sgt. Patrick Rogers and other members of the rescue team also came under fire as they descended to the cliff s edge and hoisted two wounded soldiers into their Black Hawk helicopter.

Members of the 25th Infantry Division were on patrol July 4 in the eastern province of Afghanistan when they came under fire by insurgents, according to U.S. Department of Defense media officials. Two of the soldiers sought cover on a ledge about 50 feet down the cliff.
