HOUSTON A man accused of shooting Bellaire socialite Yvonne Stern in the stomach two years ago one of three attempts on her life in what prosecutors have called a complicated murder-for-hire plot was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison on felony drug charges.

Damian Flores was found guilty Thursday of drug possession and possession of a deadly weapon.

He s also been charged with attempted capital murder in connection with the shooting, but his first trial ended in mistrial. Those charges have not been dismissed, so he could face trial again.

Stern was called to testify in the punishment phase of the drug trial Thursday, to tell the judge about the shooting.

I m here to let the judge know that Damian Flores was the one that shot me in my stomach and left me for dead, Stern said outside of the courtroom. I had to testify because his last trial was considered a mistrial, due the not credibility of Michelle Gaiser. He should be tried for my shooting and not the drug charge.

Prosecutors have alleged that Gaiser and Stern s husband plotted to have Yvonne Stern killed and hired Flores to shoot her. Gaiser has already pleaded guilty to attempted capital murder, in exchange for her testimony and a lighter sentence.

Jeffrey Stern is set to go on trial for his alleged role in the complicated case in July. Yvonne Stern maintains that he is innocent.
