HOUSTON Houston police are searching for a suspect who shot and killed a teenager at a house party in southeast Houston early Wednesday.
By some accounts as many as 1,000 high school and college-aged young people were at the party at 4404 Allison at Pembroke overnight after word of the party spread on social-media sites.
Pretty much it was just a party, a foam mansion party the remake of Project X, said Sade Williams, a concerned friend who said she showed up after her friends were not answering their phones.
She said the advertisements for the party included free alcohol and free drugs...all the extras.
The party was called a foam party because the promoters set up machines to create foam. Typically young people show up to the paid admission gatherings and dance in the foam wearing swimwear.
Houston police said two off-duty officers worked the party, but left before the shooting started. A spokesman said they left over a contractual disagreement. Later at about 12:30 a.m. when neighbors called police complaining of noise, other HPD officers showed up and started clearing out the crowd. That s when more than one person began shooting, police said.
Patrol officers got here first and they said there were people everywhere, said HPD Sgt. Adolfo Carillo. There were people running everywhere and trying to leave the scene.
Police found a teen boy shot in front of the party house, at 13200 Pembroke at Allison. He was pronounced dead at Ben Taub Hospital.
Police also saw another teen standing nearby with a gun. Police chased the teen through the woods, but lost him in all the confusion.
Police do not know if the teen they chased was responsible for the shooting.
The victim was between 17 and 19 years old.
Crime Stoppers is seeking tips at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
A KHOU 11 News check of property records listed a man and woman, who an attorney said lost the home in foreclosure. However, neighbors told KHOU 11 News that the husband still lives in the home and the wife is serving time for Medicaid fraud.
