The Oilers of Pearland drilled Kempner Thursday night at Pearland's "the Rig" Stadium. Running backs Kasey Carrier and Josh Gonzales led the way for Pearland all night, running all over Kempner, racking up five total touchdowns on their way to a 41-14 victory.
Kempner started the game with the ball and scored on their first possession with a two-yard run by QB John Shalala. Kempner may have drawn first blood, but that would be about it for the Cougars, who did not score again until the end of the fourth.
Pearland took the game over after their first offensive series.
Kasey Carrier started out the scoring for the Oilers by running in his first of two touchdowns from 32 yards out, and his second from 19 yards out. Carrier finished the game with 141 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.
Josh Gonzales showed Pearland's depth at running back, stepping in and running wild on Kempner. Gonzales racked up 44 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries.
Quarterback Sam Allen played a great game, managing the game out of a no-huddle offense, passing for 11 of 17 for 150 yards and one TD pass to Kevin Miller.
Miller added his help to the cause with five catches for 103 yards, and scored off a slant that he broke some tackles and scored from 17 yards out.
Pearland was firing on all cylinders controlling the game on both sides of the ball. The Oilers are currently sitting pretty in their district, as well as Houston-area rankings at 2-0. A strong win like this over Kempner is sure to help their standings as well as help focus their eyes on a district and state title.
