SAN ANTONIO -- Local investigators spent Wednesday morning trying to piece together the events leading up to a shooting on the east side.

Police said a 12-year-old boy was transported to University Hospital after being shot in the foot.

The young victim reportedly told officers that occupants inside of a car had opened fire on him as they were driving by. However, a friend of the victim later admitted that a group of friends were fiddling with the cocked gun when one of them accidentally fired the weapon at the victim's foot, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The shooting happened around 1:15 a.m., at a home near Pine and E. Crockett streets. The victim was picked up by paramedics a few blocks away, in the 800 block of Nevada St.

Police said the investigation is on-going.
