AUSTIN, Texas -- Full restoration of power outages from Thursday night's storm will not be complete until Saturday, Austin Energy said.
Due to the extensive damage caused by the hurricane-strength winds, crews will continue to work through the Friday evening and night to restore services for nearly 1,300 customers. While there are no major circuits out, there are currently 160 locations that crews must visit to make repairs or restore service.
The powerful winds knocked down poles and wires, damaged equipment, and snapped trees and tree limbs into power lines in many locations. The majority of overhead power lines in neighborhoods also are in backyards, slowing the speed of restoration.
Crews must carry equipment into the yards and climb the poles because bucket trucks cannot access many of the areas. Austin Energy has 25 restoration crews and nine tree crews in service to continue to make repairs.
