CRYSTAL BEACH, Texas A day at the beach almost turned tragic Tuesday when a 12-year-old boy drifted out to sea off Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Peninsula.

The Coast Guard said three boys were playing on a raft in waist deep water when the tide pulled them offshore.

An uncle managed to rescue two of the boys, but the older boy drifted more than 400 yards into the Gulf.

A Coast Guard helicopter had to drop a rescue basket to get the older boy to safety.

The boy was doing well and reunited with his parents.
