HOUSTON -- The City of Houston is suing a developer for half-a-million dollars for cutting down trees.
The city said Signature City Homes cut down a 100-year old live oak tree on Bomar Street, and another 100-year-old tree on Blodgett.
In its suit, the city accused the developer of conspiracy, claiming it cut the trees down at a time when few people would notice.
Signature City Homes released the following statement:
Signature City Homes has tried multiple times to sensibly resolve this dispute, but the city instead is wasting taxpayer resources with frivolous litigation. This lawsuit is a cynical election-season stunt. We look forward to sharing with the court the city's conduct in this dispute.
