HOUSTON A Houston man was sentenced Wednesday for killing a teenager during a drive-by shooting outside a Halloween party in southeast Houston back in 2010.
Carlos Jesus Marquez shot two teenagers, Loreal Bronte Castro and Simon Romero, while they were sitting in a pickup truck on October 30.
Castro, who was 17 years old at the time, was shot in the back and died from her injuries. Romero, her 18-year-old friend, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. He survived.
Police initially charged Marquez with murder, but later dropped the charges to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The case came finally came to a close on July 2, 2013, when Marquez was sentenced to serve 10 years in jail. Marquez was 18 years old when he committed the crime.
