HARRIS COUNTY Authorities are searching for a man accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend late Saturday night in northwest Harris County, according to the Sheriff s Office.

Deputies said that at approximately 10:30 p.m., Maria Covarrubias, 31, and her boyfriend were sitting on the couch talking in a residence in the 14100 block of Cornerstone Village.

During the course of the conversation, her boyfriend pointed a handgun at her and shot her, deputies said. Covarrubias died at the scene from her injuries.

The victim s boyfriend, known only as Melvin, fled the scene after shooting Covarrubias, deputies said. The motive for the shooting is not known.

The suspect is described as a Honduran male, 5 feet 2 inches tall, thin built and with dark colored short hair.
